Lipstick Under My Burkha cleared for limited release in India

Film  Lipstick Under My Burkha  has finally been cleared by the Indian censor board. The award winning film had initially been denied classification due to abusive language, sexual scenes and being "[lady-oriented]," 1  by the India's Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). Director Alankrita Shrivastava claimed this an "assault on women's rights" as she believed the main reason to deny clarification was that the film exposed sexism. A police team from Sadiqabad Police Station reached the scene after the accident and shifted the girl's body to District Headquarters Hospital (DHQ). The driver of the bus was arrested by police officials after fleeing from the scene earlier. Cuisine: MEAT UP IN QUETTA

Cuisine: MEAT UP IN QUETTA  PRINT Hunks of goat spiked through with large skewers roast slowly in the heat of coals to make sajji | Photos by Banaras Khan Nostalgia can be a tasty beast. Some years ago, I left Quetta because of the security situation and moved to Karachi to pursue my studies, but in the decade since, whenever I visit my beloved hometown I make sure to go to all the famous eateries that give Quetta its unique flavour. There’s nothing better than starting the day with amazing halwa puri at Naimat Kada on Prince Road, one of the busiest markets of Quetta. The place opened its doors to the public in the mid-1980s with a single shop providing only breakfast, but now it caters to a huge clientele for lunch as well as dinner with their special biryani. “During the week, people come from different areas to have breakfast here, but on the weekend they come along with their families,” says the owner, Haji Ishtiaq Ahmed. Collectors: The private world of a prolific painter

Collectors: The private world of a prolific painter  PRINT The artist’s spacious studio - Photos by Fahim Siddiqi / White Star “It is as if the viewer has been taken on an unnerving journey through dark alleys, sombre pathways, and the much desolate architectural spaces that eventually led to the inner world of the artist’s mind,” I wrote on the first solo exhibition of Moeen Faruqi, held in 1993 at Ali Imam’s Indus Gallery in Karachi. Faruqi reminisces about those days when he frequented the Indus Gallery which was housed in the understated residence of Imam Sahib. Faruqi’s studio today carries a sense of that past, naturally integrated into the spaces of his present paintings. The blue greens of the figures, a cat or fish, also seem to echo the jazz music one used to hear in his gatherings for artists and friends at his old Jamshed Road house. The artist,
