PAF, Army, Wapda, SNGPL in National Kabaddi semis

ISLAMABAD -  National champions PAF, Army, Wapda and SNGPL entered the semifinals of the 1st Chief of Air Staff (CAS) National Kabaddi Championship 2016 here at Pakistan Sports Complex, Jinnah Stadium on Thursday.

Inter Provincial Coordination (IPC) minister Riaz Hussain Pirzada graced the occasion as chief guest, while PSB Director General Akhtar Nawaz Ganjera, DDG Medical Wing Dr Waqar, DDG Facilities Agha Amjedullah, Assistant Director Hostels Malik Imtiaz Hussain, accounts officer Kalsoom, Media Director Shazia Ejaz along with others were also present on the occasion.
Like the first day, spectators thronged the venue in quite a few numbers, while the commentary in traditional Punjabi language enthralled the audience. The commentators, especially brought for the mega event, bucked up the players, teams and spectators. It was a treat to watch and a very clear message to international community that Pakistan is completely safe for all kinds of sporting events.
As per expectations top four teams, PAF, Army, SNGPL and Wapda made short work of the opponents to book their berths in the last four. It also proved that the country is blessed with immense amount of talent in kabaddi and if given some attention, they can easily win laurels for the country.
In the first quarterfinal, PAF completely dominated entire 40 minutes of the play and didn’t allow Railway players to settle down in the match. Having the services of top international players, PAF simply brushed aside Railways in all departments of the game. They got off to flying start and scored 34 points in the first half, while Railways could only score 10. The second half was almost identical to the first as airmen continued their dominance and scored further 18 points, while Railways could add only 7 to finish the match at 52-17.
In the second quarterfinal of the day, Wapda had to face stiff resistance at the hands of Punjab before registering 43-21 victory. Wapda started first half on a high note and captured 24 points as compared to 10 by Punjab, but in the second half, Punjab put tremendous pressure on Wapda and captured 11 points, while Wapda added 19 points.
In the third quarterfinal, Army was given a close fight by HEC before going down fighting 52-32. Army scored 30 in the first half and 22 in the second half. HEC scored 20 in the first and 12 in the second half. In the fourth and last quarterfinal of the day, SNGPL taught kabaddi lesson to Police. SNGPL muster 50 points, while Police could only score meagre 11 points.
Today (Friday), PAF will take on SNGPL in the first semifinal today at 2:30pm, while Army will face Wapda challenge in the second semifinal at 3:30pm.
