Job Description for Construction Superintendent
A construction superintendent supervises every aspect of a building project, including by reporting on progress to owners, handling basic proposals, and managing contracts. Depending on the project, a construction superintendent also may assist in the physical aspect of construction. In addition, a person who holds this position must make sure that a particular project is within the parameters a set budget and relevant laws.
Construction superintendents' hours can be somewhat irregular, since they must be available throughout the duration of any given project. In most cases, superintendents work long hours and on the weekends.
Many construction superintendents have already worked within their company for an extended period of time. Experience in construction, especially in a supervisory role, is essential. Though a college degree is not required, it can help an individual gain deep knowledge that can come in handy while on the job. Superintendents also may obtain a license or become registered with a local building authority.

- Is the sole person in supervision over the construction workers.
- Is responsible for the quality of work and for keeping the project on time and within budget.
